Lovely cottage in a great area. Enjoyed the walks over to the ruins and small beach opposite. Our favourite restaurant was Am Birlinn near Calgary. Wildlife - good view of sea eagle at Loch Ba and good golden eagle sightings near Dervaig and Glen More. Otters by the ruins around the bay opposite and seals by the shipwrecks. Hen harriers along road to Dervaig and Grasspoint. See you again in the future.

This was our 6th year at Shepherd's Cottage. Had some nice walks at Langamull and Ardmore Point. 4 lovely sunny days and 2 days with non-stop rain - still enjoyed our stay although a little less than usual. Good meals at MacGoghans in Tobermory and Salen Hotel. Good fish and chips from van in Tobermory

We've had a fabulous week at Shepherd's Cottage - what a find! Always a joy to come back to at the end of an action packed day. There has been plenty of rain this week but mostly at night so we've hardly had our waterproofs on. Can definitely recommend a boat trip to Staffa - a geological marvel which exceeded our expectations! Another highlight was a scramble over rock to get to MacKinnon's Cave. Take a torch to explore the furthest reaches. We enjoyed the ealk from the cottage up to the Iron Age fort. Great views for not too much effort. Hope you enjoy your week as much as we did!

History of Shepherds Cottage

The cottage was built by Duncan Fletcher, to house the estate shepherd, with stone from an earlier building on the site.

The rear of the cottage, now a bathroom , larder and small bedroom, was originally a byre for the shepherd to house his cow, and there was a traditional box bed bed built into the wall of what is now the kitchen.

The cottage was in continual use for the shepherd until the early 1960’s, except for a period during the second world war when it was let to Captain Callum Black of the Lohinvar, one of David Macbrayne’s most respected sea captains, who lived there with his five children!
